First Taste

Long, stick-like legs, fuzzy bums, hairy ears and soft, velvety noses – stuff foals are made of. I met this young man when he was only two weeks old at Double J Ranch in Freelton, Ontario.

 He was very interested in the green thing sprouting here and there from the half frozen ground in the early spring. His mother was eating it with gusto and he was determined to try it too. Oh, but the long legs… How to get down there, all the way to the ground? With his legs crossed over and his head wedged between them, he finally managed to take his first bite of green grass.

 How  could I resist drawing a pose like this?
